Dangers of e-cigarettes highlighted for World No Tobacco Day 2024

Kathmandu, Bagmati Province - Under the theme - youth step in and speak out - the Ministry of Health and Population, WHO Country Office for Nepal and partners commemorated World No Tobacco Day, providing a significant platform for young people who are calling for the tobacco industry to stop targeting them with products, especially e-cigarettes (vapes), that are harmful to their health. During the event, presentations highlighted the dangers of e-cigarettes and the national laws and measures in place in Nepal to combat tobacco use. Video testimonials from youth, and individuals affected by the harmful effects of tobacco use and vaping, were also showcased to underscore the severe health risks associated with tobacco products. Six individuals and organizations were also felicitated for their exemplary efforts in tobacco control in Nepal. Stakeholders emphasized the importance of empowering young people to make healthy choices, and stressed the need for collective action to quit tobacco products and promote a healthier, tobacco-free future.
