National workshop on urban wastewater system held

Kathmandu, Bagmati province - On World Environment Day, the Department of Water Supply and Sewerage Management, Ministry of Water Supply and Society of Public Health Engineers, Nepal (SOPHEN) organized a national workshop on urban wastewater systems to enhance its reliability, resiliency and sustainability. The workshop, supported by WHO, UNICEF, UN-Habitat, USAID, SNV and WaterAid Nepal saw the participation of over 120 individuals, including public health engineers, members of SOPHEN, officials from the supporting organizations, academia and other stakeholders. Technical presentations on urban wastewater management situational analysis, climate resiliency, sanitation safety planning, global and national best practices, and climate financing were delivered. Discussions focused on identifying challenges, opportunities and recommendation which will be used to develop a new proposal, aimed at supporting future national projects on climate resilient and sustainable urban wastewater systems.
