Kathmandu, Bagmati province - The Ministry of Health and Population (MoHP), with support from WHO Country Office for Nepal, organized an interactive stakeholder session to accelerate a multisectoral response to noncommunicable diseases (NCDs) and mental health. Over 45 representatives from the MoHP; Ministry of Women, Children and Social Welfare; Ministry of Information and Communications; Ministry of Education, Science and Technology; Ministry of Urban Development; Ministry of Forest and Environment; Ministry of Home Affairs; Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock Development; NORAD; UN agencies; civil societies, and people living with NCDs (PLWNCDs) were in attendance. The programme provided a common platform for stakeholders to share experiences, and discuss and advance joint activities aimed at accelerating the national response to NCDs and mental health conditions. Latest updates and lessons learned from implementing the Multisectoral Action Plan for the Prevention and Control of NCDs (MSAP-II) in Nepal were shared, which was followed by recommendations from NORAD and WHO to reduce the burden of NCDs and mental health conditions in Nepal. Stakeholders emphasized the importance of synergistic multi-sectoral collaboration through a whole-of-government and whole-of-society approach, integrating programs to achieve the 2025 NCD targets and universal health coverage for NCDs and mental health via a primary health approach, and ensuring that PLWNCDs are at the core of programming.
