Kathmandu, Bagmati Province - WHO handed skills lab equipment to the National Health Training Center (NHTC), Ministry of Health and Population. Due to its portable nature, the equipment which was procured with support from the EU Civil Protection and Humanitarian Aid (ECHO), can be easily carried around and will enable NHTC to conduct hands-on trainings in rural areas. Trainers can now conduct practical sessions and enhance healthcare workers’ clinical management skills on cardiopulmonary resuscitation, intubations, chest tube insertions, needle thoracotomy, fracture management, IV access, and patient mobilization, and other lifesaving skills. WHO is currently supporting NHTC to train emergency medical technicians and ambulance drivers; and conduct trainings on hospital preparedness for emergencies, basic life support, primary emergency care, primary trauma care, amongst others; where these equipment can be used. This handover complements the recently inaugurated National Simulation Lab at NHTC which was set up with support from European Commission and WHO. NHTC and WHO are planning to establish similar simulation labs at provinces across the country.
