9-10 April | Kathmandu, Bagmati Province - The Epidemiology and Disease Control Division, under the Ministry of Health and Population, organized a two-day consultative meeting to strengthen the National Leprosy Elimination Programme, with particular focus on accelerating active case detection, Leprosy Post-Exposure Prophylaxis (LPEP) and case-based surveillance at sub-national level. 60 participants, including leprosy programme focal persons of seven provincial health directorates and 14 leprosy high endemic districts, networks of people with lived experience of leprosy and partner organizations, participated in the meeting, supported by WHO Country Office for Nepal. Stakeholders urged the adoption of a user-friendly platform for a leprosy case-based surveillance system, and committed to boost resource allocation for active case detection along with community awareness activities at the local level and LPEP scale up in the high endemic districts to interrupt the leprosy transmission. These inputs will accelerate the progress towards leprosy elimination at the sub-national level.
