Kathmandu, Bagmati Province – WHO, Country Office for Nepal, handed over 11,015 units of vaccine carriers, and over 132,000 pieces of indelible marker pens, to the Department of Health Services, Ministry of Health and Population. The vaccine carriers will enable vaccine storage under recommended temperature and boost Nepal’s cold chain capacity. This will enable health workers to deliver vaccines in hard-to-reach areas and ensure equitable and inclusive vaccination coverage, so that no one is left behind to get vaccinated for COVID-19 or to receive other lifesaving antigens. The carriers will support both the national typhoid and COVID-19 vaccination campaigns. Moreover, the pens will support preparedness towards the National Typhoid Campaign and aid the vaccination team to mark the nails of all children (15 months to < 15 years) after vaccinations. These markings are the best indicator of the area's actual vaccination coverage, specifically to estimate accurate coverage during evaluation by an independent monitoring team.
