Kathmandu, Bagmati Province - The Ministry of Health and Population (MoHP) and the Centre for Public Health and Environmental Development (CEPHED) commemorated International Lead Poisoning Prevention Week, with support from WHO, Country Office for Nepal, and underscored the critical need to eliminate lead in paint and its detrimental impacts, especially on children. Representatives from health and environment ministries, and journalists from various national and sub-national media organizations emphasized the need for effective measures to control the haphazard use of lead. Dignitaries from the MoHP also recognized the significance of addressing this issue by awarding five journalists who excelled in a news article competition focused on exposing the hazardous use of lead. WHO will continue to support MoHP and its partners in their efforts to reduce the harmful effects of lead exposure.
