2025 – Ten years of Making listening safe
2025 marks ten years since the launch of the Make Listening Safe (MLS) initiative. To commemorate this milestone and shape its future direction, the World Health Organization (WHO) and the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) hosted the Consultation on the Make Listening Safe Initiative 2025, from 1 to 3 July 2025 at the ITU Headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland.
This hybrid meeting brought together a diverse group of invited stakeholders from across sectors to reflect on the initiative’s progress over the past decade, share experiences, and define priorities for the next phase of work. The programme included plenary sessions, thematic working groups, and cross-sectoral engagement, all aimed at advancing global efforts to prevent hearing loss through safe listening practices.
Outcomes
- Reflection on progress over the past decade of the Make Listening Safe initiative.
- Defined priorities and guide the next phase of global action.
- Contributed to strategies for implementation across personal audio devices, esports and gaming, music, events, schools, and research.
- Strengthened cross-sectoral partnerships.
