First Pacific Health Ministers Meeting

The first ever Conference of Ministers of Health for the Pacific Islands was convened by WHO in Fiji on 9-10 March 1995 in Yanuca Island, Fiji, as requested by the ministers of health for Pacific island countries.
The first ever Conference of Ministers of Health for the Pacific islands was convened by WHO in Fiji on 9–10 March 1995 in Yanuca Island, Fiji, as requested by the ministers of health for Pacific island countries and areas. The ministerial meeting was preceded by a meeting of the directors of health on 6–8 March 1995 in Suva.
During the conference, health ministers adopted and ratified the Yanuca Island Declaration on Health in the Pacific in the 21st Century, paving the way for the unifying vision of “Healthy Islands” for health promotion and health protection in the Pacific. The meeting also provided an opportunity to discuss human resources development and the supply and management of pharmaceuticals and other medical supplies.
