Eighth Pacific Health Ministers Meeting

The Eighth Pacific Health Ministers Meeting was held in Madang, Papua New Guinea on 7–9 July 2009. The meeting was hosted by the Government of Papua New Guinea with support from WHO and the Pacific Community (SPC).

Health ministers discussed a broad range of priority topics in the Pacific including food security, maternal, child and adolescent health, influenza pandemic preparedness, essential medicines, human resources for health, noncommunicable diseases, and communicable diseases. During the meeting, the ministers reviewed the progress made towards the commitments made in previous meetings held in Tonga, Samoa and Vanuatu. They also called for a revitalization of the Healthy Islands vision and primary health care and discussed aid effectiveness in the Pacific for the first time.
