Twelfth Pacific Health Ministers Meeting

Twelfth Pacific Health Ministers Meeting

Rarotonga, Cook Islands (2017)

The Twelfth Pacific Health Ministers Meeting was held in Rarotonga, Cook Islands on 28–30 August 2017. The Government of Cook Islands hosted the meeting with support provided by WHO and the Pacific Community (SPC).

The meeting provided an opportunity to report on the progress of the Healthy Islands Monitoring Framework (HIMF) developed at the previous meeting in 2015, which is an important tool for monitoring progress and achievements towards the Healthy Islands vision. The meeting was also a chance to reflect on the contribution of universal health coverage (UHC) to the Healthy Islands journey, shared achievements, and agreeing on the way forward to realize the vision.

Health ministers called for greater efforts and increased investments to mitigate the adverse impacts of climate change on human health and agreed to include climate change and health as a standing agenda item at future meetings.
