Turning research potential into stronger health systems and safer medicines in Viet Nam

News release

How can Viet Nam’s strengths in health research translate into stronger health systems and safer, more accessible medicines? That question guided a WHO-led workshop, co-hosted with Hanoi Medical University and the Oxford University Clinical Research Unit, held in Ha Noi on 26 September 2025. The event brought together regulators, researchers, universities, hospitals, and industry partners to consider how clinical trials can better serve the people of Viet Nam.

Participants recognized Viet Nam’s significant achievements in medical research and discussed ways to make clinical trials faster, more efficient, and more accessible. The discussions linked national ambitions with the WHO Global Action Plan for Clinical Trial Ecosystem Strengthening, which supports countries in building fair, resilient systems that generate high-quality evidence.

This workshop forms part of the WHO Regional Office for the Western Pacific’s broader effort to support Member States in strengthening clinical trial ecosystems. By building capacity and trust in clinical research, countries can attract investment, accelerate innovation, and, most importantly, deliver safer, more effective treatments to communities.

WHO acknowledges the generous support of the British Embassy in Viet Nam and the UK Department of Health and Social Care in making this workshop possible.
