1-2 August | Lalitpur, Bagmati province – The Ministry of Health and Population (MoHP) and WHO Country Office for Nepal held a national conference on climate change and health for developing a climate-resilient and sustainable low-carbon health system in the country. Over 150 stakeholders attended, including government officials, development partners, professional societies, academia, media, healthcare professionals and environmental experts. The event featured panel discussions, presentations and keynotes, fostering interdisciplinary dialogue and collaboration on the intersection of climate change and public health. Participants shared research, recommended programs for a climate-resilient health system and discussed adaptation strategies. Promoting a multi-sectoral and harmonized approach to enhancing Nepal's health system's resilience and sustainability, the conference also addressed issues like air pollution, WASH and other environmental health concerns, recommending strategies aligned with the Health National Adaptation Plan and Nepal’s COP26 commitments. WHO is committed to supporting partners in achieving a healthier and more resilient Nepal, with climate change being a top priority in our global program of work.
