The #HeroesEndingPolio series honors everyday vaccine heroes who are working hard to reach every child with life-saving polio drops. Meet Joanisah, a nurse from Marantao, Lanao del Sur.
“I am Joanisah Abdul Bashet. I’m a new nurse under the Human Resources for Health (HRH) Deployment Programme. I started in August at the Rural Health Unit of Marantao.
Before Monday, we had a meeting as a team to discuss what we will be doing and finalize the equipment we will need. We had an orientation on how we will use the vaccine carriers and proper storage of vaccines to be used in the vaccination campaign.
My role as a nurse is important in this activity because I have knowledge about polio and my purpose is to inform them about what they should do, how they can prevent the transmission of polio.
Since we’re here in Lanao del Sur, one of the poorest regions in the Philippines, I am motivated to help especially those who are less than five years old.
That’s why, my fellow-HRH Nurse Development Project (NDP), we can do this, we will finish this, let’s fight polio. Let’s work together to end polio!”
