#HeroesEndingPolio

Melinda,
barangay health worker

Walking the uphill, rocky path to her assigned purok (district) seemed like an easy task for Melinda, a 53-year-old barangay health worker (BHW) in Aurora province. She proudly shared that she knows all households in her area, including those which have children eligible for vaccination. Here’s her #HeroesEndingPolio story:

“Here in Purok 7, I oversee 103 households. We climb the hills to get here. Even if the currents are strong, if there are rains, we still have to cross the river in order to get here.

It is our duty as BHWs to visit each house, to tell the parents that they have to participate in the polio immunization of their children so that they won’t contract the illness. I explain to them the benefits of immunizing their children. The parents then agree and their children get immunized.

To all my fellow BHWs, let us diligently fulfill our duty, even if we are just volunteers. Let’s do this for the health and well-being of our barangay.”
