At a November 2022 joint WHO and Mongolian Ministry of Health workshop, participants conducted a “backcasting from the future” exercise as part of a strategic dialogue process to identify ways to improve health in the country.
The Strategic Dialogue (DIA) unit supports Member States in building future-proof, resilient, and people-centred health systems through the use of strategic foresight.
By proactively anticipating trends, risks, and emerging issues, and their potential implications, Member States can move beyond traditional planning practices and create forward-looking strategies and plans that inform innovation and the review of existing strategies.
DIA facilitates a supportive environment by offering structured and future-oriented policy dialogues, trainings, knowledge sharing, and collaboration based on this comprehensive approach. The overarching objective is to support Member States in future-proofing their health systems. This involves initiating a shift in organizational culture and capacity through targeted foresight engagement, and embedding a "futures lens" into their strategic planning and programming efforts, as well as those of WPRO.
This will serve as a catalyst for accelerating progress towards achieving universal health coverage and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in the Region.
