Kathmandu, Bagmati Province — WHO Country Office for Nepal extended technical support to organize a three-day orientation on Antimicrobial Stewardship (AMS) Programme for health workers at Sukraraj Tropical and Infectious Disease Hospital on 16–18 February. More than 50 clinicians, nurses, hospital administrators and laboratory personnel received orientation on AWaRe (Access, Watch, Reserve) classification of antibiotics, AMS principles, core components and implementation requirements. Participants were also introduced to the revised National Antimicrobial Treatment Guidelines and its mobile application iteration to promote appropriate prescribing of antibiotics. During the programme, participants also assessed the hospital’s existing AMS status and developed a draft institutional AMS workplan tailored to the hospital’s context. This initiative is part of WHO’s support for advancing AMS implementation in Nepal.
