Quality of care
Generates and provides knowledge, methods, tools, guidance, capacity-building and learning to support countries to address quality of health care and services as a function of health system performance that impacts system responsiveness and health outcomes.

Why quality matters?

Each year, between 5.7 and 8.4 million people are dying due to poor quality care in low- and middle-income countries, counting for up to 15 percent of overall deaths in these countries. Lost productivity due to poor quality care in these countries is estimated around $1.4 to $1.6 trillion per year.

Quality of health care services is critical for achieving effective universal health coverage. As countries commit to achieving Health for All, it is an imperative to ensure health services provided are effective, safe and people-centred.
