Fourth Pacific Health Ministers Meeting
Madang, Papua New Guinea (2001)
The Fourth Pacific Health Ministers Meeting was held in Madang, Papua New Guinea on 12–15 March 2001. The meeting was hosted by the Government of Papua New Guinea, with support from WHO and the Pacific Community (SPC). The ministerial meeting was preceded by a meeting of the directors of health.
The ministerial meeting provided an opportunity for health ministers to strengthen work towards the Healthy Islands vision and assess the progress made since the previous meeting held in Palau. The meeting also had a discussion around a comprehensive set of health issues in the Pacific, including communicable disease surveillance and response, traditional medicine, diabetes, tuberculosis, filariasis, and human resource development in such areas as distance learning and health management.
