Morning Meeting Mat (MMM) | 2047

What if the strength of your community kept you healthier for longer?

Healthier people throughout the life course  |  Resilient communities, societies and systems for health security

The morning meeting mat (MMM) is a beautifully designed rug that serves as a meeting point for community members living in blue zones to regularly gather and discuss collective issues and priorities for their local area, including health challenges and goals. Furthermore, this form of frequent social connection fosters strong ties between those who attend, leading to improved wellbeing and communication networks within communities.

Community Health Brochures | 1989

A health education brochure from 1989, represents the foundation work of mobile health clinics in spreading essential health knowledge.

The sun is rising at 5:10 am in the blue zone. The image is beautiful. Theo, who just had his 120th birthday, is excited about the day ahead. After his morning exercise and breathing, he is set to meet with friends to discuss community issues at their local MMM. The community, as usual, meets at 6:00 am on the mat in the local park. The air is fresh with the sound of birds singing in the trees. Theo and other members of the community talk about how to prepare for future pandemics and discourage young people from taking up smoking. They are in touch with WPRO about the next round of vaccinations and are on the lookout for any new diseases that may jeopardize the expected longevity of their great grandchildren. The mat is the place to share stories, connect and listen so everyone can feel physically and emotionally well.
